Hometown: Langley Park, Maryland
College Experience: Men's Soccer Club at Georgia State University
Position: Community Program Manager

Jorge Ortiz previously coached for Soccer in the Streets in the Underwood Hills community during his time in graduate school at Georgia State University where he studied sports administration. Upon finishing school, he joined Soccer in the Streets as a new Community Program Manager. Making soccer available to everyone is what drew him to Soccer in the Streets.

Jorge is currently working on creating a community program by bringing awareness specifically to the Buford Highway (BuHi) corridor. Within the program, his goal is to build a sustainable community program where kids learn soccer and life skills.

“I am excited to start in the organization as another Community Program Manager. I am confident that my experience as a Soccer in the Streets coach will help build programs in these communities where soccer is needed,” said Ortiz.

Born in Hyattsville, Maryland, he started playing soccer at the age of four with his neighborhood team. It was until his move to Georgia in High School that Ortiz stopped playing soccer, the financial requirement to play was too much for his family.

It was not until college that Ortiz would be able to play organized soccer again. However, throughout his career, he coached many teams, including the popular club GSA and Toluca Atlanta Soccer Club which he took to compete internationally in Mexico.

At Georgia State University, he became the president, manager, coach, and player of the school’s club team. Here he gained valuable experience in managing a soccer organization while also learning Georgia’s vast and complex network of Latino soccer leagues, playing in Gainesville, Lawrenceville, Tucker, and Norcross.

He feels Soccer in the Streets is a perfect fit for him because he can help others get involved with soccer and grow in life. As an organization, Soccer in the Streets is excited to have Ortiz join the team!
