Professional soccer player Julian Gressel is excited to announce Mercedes-Benz, Piedmont Hospital, and PGA Tour Superstore as sponsors of his inaugural Gresselmania Golf Classic to be held Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Georgia. The Gresselmania Golf Classic, created by Gressel and his wife, Casey, will raise funds for Soccer in the Streets to build a field at a new StationSoccer location Atlanta for kids who don’t have access and transportation to play soccer.

The Gresselmania Golf Classic – a four-person scramble format - will feature a great day of golf in a stunning setting - the TPC Sugarloaf, crafted by the legendary Greg Norman, and named by Golf Digest, one of the Top 100 Private Clubs in the U.S. when it debuted on the golf scene. The Golf Classic will feature a day on the links playing with sports and entertainment celebrities, cool contests on the course – including a Hole in One contest sponsored by Mercedes-Benz, food offerings along the course, a VIP Appreciation Post Golf Party, a silent auction with unique experiences and sports memorabilia, and more.

“Ever since we moved to Atlanta, Casey and I have wanted to give back to the city that has been so good to us – and help move the needle to give more kids access to play spaces,” said Gressel.  “Next to soccer, golf is definitely one of my favorite sports. So, what better way to raise money than through a golf event? We are partnering with Soccer in the Streets to help make the next StationSoccer location a reality!”

Soccer in the Streets has a vision that all children will have the opportunity to succeed. Soccer in the Streets pursues leveling the playing field for all, affording access to the sport regardless of race, gender, religion, or socio-economic status. They strive to intergrate our communities, intertwining efforts from corporations, education, systems, governemnt, non-profits, and community leaders to better the lives of youth through soccer.

“We are excited to see three great partners support the Gresselmania Golf Classic,” said Phil Hill, Executive Director of Soccer in the Streets. “Together the sponsorship and tournament participant funds will support our StationSoccer initiative which continues to tackle affordability and lack of transportation for youth sports participation.”

CEMEX supports youth soccer initiative with concrete donation

CEMEX announced today it is donating concrete to further its support of Soccer in the Streets, a non-profit organization in Atlanta, Ga., that develops soccer projects and provides leadership programs to benefit children in historically marginalized communities.

CEMEX announced today it is donating concrete to further its support of Soccer in the Streets, a non-profit organization in Atlanta, Ga., that develops soccer projects and provides leadership programs to benefit children in historically marginalized communities.

Ready Mix USA, a CEMEX USA company, has pledged to donate nearly 100 cubic yards of concrete to Soccer in the Streets for the development of two soccer field projects in the Atlanta area. The concrete will be used for curbs and sidewalks for fields strategically planned near transit stations to provide easy access for children in the neighborhoods.

At CEMEX, we are always looking for opportunities to contribute to improved quality of life and wellbeing in the communities in which we live and operate,” said Alberto de Armas, CEMEX Senior Vice President – Human Resources. “We are proud to support Soccer in the Streets. Our responsible business strategy closely aligns with the organization’s mission to help youth develop employable skills and promote healthy lifestyles. Through programs like Soccer in the Streets, we can build more sustainable communities.  We will continue exploring additional ways we can support Soccer in the Streets, including through our global volunteering program, CEMEX Unite.”

CEMEX made the donation announcement as several of the company’s global executives, including members of the CEMEX USA Management Team, attended a session of IGNITE 2019, an initiative to develop leaders who embrace new ways of thinking, learning and working, while helping them achieve greater success as the industry evolves with digital technologies. The program is anchored in CEMEX’s core values to Ensure Safety, Focus on Customers, Pursue Excellence, Work as One CEMEX and Act with Integrity.

As part of the IGNITE leadership program, participants attended a community event hosted by Soccer in the Streets that promoted soccer and awareness of programs that serve youth who otherwise lack adequate access to sports programs or transportation.

Partnerships like this are invaluable in our goal to cultivate healthy communities. Whilst the CEMEX materials donation towards our projects is fantastic, their support through community events like the IGNITE activation, whereby CEMEX employees are now interacting with the communities we serve, enhances the social impact of the work we all collaborate to do,” said Sanjay Patel, Director of Strategic Projects. “We truly appreciate the role CEMEX is playing as we continue to grow the game and make an impact where it's most needed.”

During the IGNITE session from June 23-27, CEMEX executives also visited other businesses to identify digital behaviors that help customers solve problems, then encouraged to develop programs and put them into practice.

We are innovating at CEMEX, leading the digital transformation in the building materials industry, and we are constantly working to improve how we interact with our customers,” said CEMEX USA President Ignacio Madridejos. “By learning perspectives from other industries, we can use those ideas and transform them into innovations that can enhance the experiences for our customers.

The next IGNITE session for CEMEX executives is planned for September in Prague in the Czech Republic.

Dreams Become a Reality

Dreams became a reality for two Clarkston FC players this summer. Elvis and Phil of the Clarkston FC U19 Boys team found out they both will be attending Campbellsville University in the Fall of 2020. After being a part of the in the Soccer in the Streets (SITS) program for over seven years, these two athletes have fulfilled a goal they set years ago as youngsters.

Dreams become a reality for two Clarkston FC players this summer. Elvis and Phil of the Clarkston FC U19 Boys team found out they both will be attending Campbellsville University in the Fall of 2019. After being a part of the in the Soccer in the Streets (SITS) program for over seven years, these two athletes have fulfilled a goal they set years ago as youngsters.

As a native of Tanzania, Elvis, moved to Georgia at the beginning of his childhood. He has followed his passion for the sport through the Soccer in the Streets organization. As an athlete, he has dreamed to one day become a professional soccer player. Playing at the collegiate level is the next step along his pathway.

“It means a lot to me to graduate high school and attend college,” said Elvis. “ I will be the first one in my family to attend college and I want to set an example for my younger siblings as well as my teammates.”

Elvis has become a leader for his Clarkston FC team by making an impact on others by his words and actions. His advice to the younger generation is to never give up, no matter what life throws your way.

A fellow teammate and member of the Clarkston Community, Phil, will also be attending Campbellsville. Phil, too, has a dream of becoming a professional soccer player.

“I have dreamt ever since I was in middle school to pursue a soccer career and I hope to keep that momentum moving forward,” said Phil. “After college, I plan to come back to the SITS program and donate my time to help the youth of the program. I have a passion for the game and want to show others that they can pursue their goals as well.”

To keep them closer to the game as well learn a skill, both Elvis and Phil enrolled in the SITS Referee Program, established to provide work readiness skills. To date, 20 players have enrolled in the program. Both players learned how to officiate matches and earned their USSF certification.

In addition, they learned other life skills like how to manage people, time management and financial literacy. The program works hard to ensure that the young officials are well prepared, whether it's working within the SITS leagues or for other associations and competitions.

By being a part of this program, the younger players look up to the future collegiate players as they lead by example, both on and off the pitch. For Phil, becoming certified has helped him connect better with the game as well as learning what it means to be a professional official.

Soccer in the Streets strives to impact the lives of youth on and off the soccer field. Guiding players down the right path and supporting them on their journey of life is just a small part of the mission the organization abides by.
